What You'll Need

  • A Verizon Fios router (G3100, G1100, or CR1000A)
  • The My Fios app on your phone (iOS or Android) or access to myfiosgateway.com
  • Your Verizon account login
  • About 10–15 minutes

Verizon Fios parental controls are managed through the My Fios app — Verizon's primary management tool for Fios customers. The gateway's built-in admin panel (myfiosgateway.com) has limited filtering features. Use the app for parental controls and DNS filtering as a network-level backup.

📡

Which Fios gateway do you have?

The model number is printed on the sticker on the back or bottom of the gateway. Common models:

  • G3100 — Wi-Fi 6, current model (2019–present), white and square
  • G1100 — older gateway, white and rectangular
  • CR1000A — newer model (2023+), Wi-Fi 6E

All are supported by My Fios parental controls.

Part 1: Parental Controls via My Fios App

Download the My Fios app

Download My Fios from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). It's free for Verizon Fios customers. Log in with your Verizon account (myverizon.com credentials).

Go to Internet → Connected Devices → Parental Controls

In the app: tap the Internet tile or navigate to Account → Internet Settings → Connected Devices. Look for Parental Controls or tap on your child's device name.

Add a parental control profile

Tap Set Up Parental Controls (or Add Child Profile). Enter your child's name. Assign their devices to the profile.

Block content categories

In the profile settings, you'll see options for:

  • Content Filtering — block categories like Video Streaming, Social Media, or Entertainment. Blocking Video Streaming prevents YouTube from loading on their devices.
  • Scheduled Downtime — set hours when internet access is paused entirely for their devices.

Save

Apply the settings. Changes take effect within a minute or two.

Part 2: Pause Internet for Specific Devices

In My Fios app, select the device to pause

Internet → Connected Devices → tap your child's device.

Pause the device

Tap Pause Device. Internet access is immediately suspended for that device. Tap Resume when you want to restore access.

Set a recurring schedule

In the device or profile settings, look for Schedule or Scheduled Pause → set recurring times (e.g. pause every night 9pm–7am and on school mornings).

Part 3: DNS Filtering via the Gateway Admin Panel

For router-wide YouTube blocking that covers every device:

Access the Fios gateway admin panel

On a device connected to your Fios network, open a browser and go to:

  • myfiosgateway.com — works on all Fios gateways
  • 192.168.1.1 — fallback IP for most Fios gateways

Log in using your admin credentials. The Admin Password is printed on the gateway sticker (look for a long alphanumeric string, not the Wi-Fi password). The default username is admin.

Navigate to Advanced → DNS

Once logged in, look for:

  • AdvancedNetwork SettingsDNS
  • Or Basic SettingsInternetDNS

You're looking for Primary DNS Server and Secondary DNS Server fields.

Enter CleanBrowsing Family DNS

  • Primary DNS Server: 185.228.168.168
  • Secondary DNS Server: 185.228.169.168

Click Apply or Save.

Restart the gateway

Go to the gateway admin panel's Utilities or Administration section and click Restart Gateway. Or power-cycle the gateway (unplug for 10 seconds). After restart, youtube.com will fail to resolve on all connected devices.

Part 4: Block Sites via Gateway Firewall (G3100)

The G3100 has a content filtering / firewall rules section in the admin panel:

Go to Advanced → Firewall → Content Filtering (G3100)

In the gateway admin at myfiosgateway.com: AdvancedFirewallContent Filtering or Domain Filtering.

Add YouTube domains to the block list

Add each domain individually:

  • youtube.com
  • youtu.be
  • googlevideo.com

Enable the filter and click Apply.

How Kids Bypass This

My Fios app account security: Parental control profiles are managed through your Verizon account. If your child has access to your Verizon account login, they can modify or remove restrictions. Secure your Verizon account with a strong password and enable two-factor authentication.

Mobile data bypass: Fios controls only cover your home Wi-Fi. On mobile data (Verizon wireless or another carrier), your child bypasses the Fios network. Use Screen Time (iPhone) or Family Link (Android) for device-level coverage everywhere.

G1100 has limited filtering features: The older G1100 gateway admin panel has fewer options than the G3100. If you're on a G1100, My Fios app parental controls and DNS filtering are your primary tools.

Fios gateway automatic updates: Verizon pushes firmware updates to Fios gateways. An update can occasionally move or reset settings. After a firmware update, verify that DNS settings and parental control profiles are still active.

Counter-Measures

My Fios app is the right primary tool: The Fios gateway admin panel is functional but limited. The My Fios app has the most complete parental control interface — use it to create profiles and set content restrictions.

DNS filtering + category blocking = two layers: Content filtering in My Fios (category-based) and DNS filtering (domain resolution-based) are independent layers. DNS filtering survives any My Fios profile changes your child might make if they gain app access.

Pair with device-level controls: Fios controls cover your home Wi-Fi. Screen Time (iPhone) or Family Link (Android) covers your child on mobile data and other networks.
